I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (Eph 4:1-2)

Welcome to Onederland

So I'm a couple weeks late on this, but Happy First Birthday to my beautiful, smart, amazing little girl- excuse me, BIG girl, Isabella Grace!! We have lots of pictures from parties 1 & 2, but of course Mom hasn't gotten around to getting them off the camera. This weekend, I promise! But in the mean time, I had to say happy birthday to my girl. She is the light everyday of my life.

I love you, Isabella!!

Vacation

Bella has always loved to sleep in.

But on vacation, she really loves it. And especially after a long day on the beach and a night of wrestling with her cousins.

We are now 7 days from her birthday, I can't believe it! I am so thankful that I don't have to work this week and that we will be home. Us two girls can spend the week getting ready for the big day and maybe I won't be so sad to see her turn 1.

The Countdown...

So I think it is only appropriate to do a little countdown here, since only one year ago today I was praying for labor and time to speed past and today I'm watching my baby girl sleep and she looks more to me like a 5 year old than an infant, wishing time would stop going at all!! I can't really describe how fast the past year has gone by, but from my lack of posts and abundance of pictures I know that it was a wonderful, fun-filled, emotional year. So today- 9 days before my baby girl enters "One-derland" and leaves infancy behind her, I want to say this: what hasn't changed in the past year is: 1) her love for nursing, anywhere...any time and 2) how much Bella looks like her daddy and acts like me. It's a blessing and a curse :)

Okay- so 9 to go.

I love you SO MUCH little Isabella Grace!! And since I can't make you stop growing, at least keep going at a pace where mommy can sorta keep up :)

I can't believe it worked....

Bella is a signing machine!

It's true; she can tell me "hi" and "bye," "more" and "all done," "please," "dog," "dirty," "water" and "phone." Oh, and "milk/nurse" - pretty much her favorite sign!! :) I'm actually considering not teaching my next kid that one, it gets pret
ty abused ;) But really, she is so smart! We have little conversations back and forth now:
"Bella, are you hungry?"
- Bella signs "milk"
"Really, right now? What about water?"
- Bella signs "milk"
"What about pears? Or crackers!?"
- Bella signs "milk+please"
Mom gives in.... :)

It's pretty cute. And what I love even more is how her signs have gone from erratic and ambiguous, to controlled and precise. When we add a new one, she does her own then for a day or two. Like with 'please' [which is rubbing your chest, open hand], for a few days she just rubbed her hands together after she said 'more,' then she started rubbing her arms...and then yesterday- POOF! She is signing it like a pro :) All and all, I can't believe it really work!

To all the moms and dads who don't think that it's worth the effort to teach your kids to sign, take it from me: it so much easier to guess between a few signs (like 'water'/'dirty' that are similar) than to play 'decipher the screams...' If Bella wants it, she can
tell us 90% of the time. Plus, now that she has the basics down, we are adding more and more specific signs every week. And to those of you who think this will delay her speaking- not the case! Bella already says, "hi" "mom" "dad" "baby" "dog" "hello" and what sounds like "Joel." It is remarkable!

I know I'm over due on photos... so more to come soon! I need to get some up of Bella walking/running. She is already faster than her daddy ;) Till then- love you all!
Just wanted to post another of my favorite moments in honor of my grandma- I miss you, Nana! Bella would have loved you so much! And I think "Nana" would have been one of her first words too :)

A Year Goes By...

Today is the first anniversary of my Nana's passing. We all love her so much and wish that she were here, but I am so thankful for all the years we had together, for everything she taught me (like how to give a man directions) and that she is still keeping an eye on us from heaven. I know that she is watching her first great-granddaughter grow into such a big girl and that she loves her so! So even though today is marked with sadness and memories of our loss, it is also a day to remember how much she loved us all and how blessed we were to know her! I <3 you, Nana!

Life After Bachelors...

That's right ladies and gentleman, I am a graduate. Bachelors in hand (sorta) and the UNC system behind me, I am forging my way into the future. And by forging I mean, I'm not doing one bit of thinking about classical literature, grammar and linguistics, or lifting a finger to write one more essay (except here, of course). It is, however, only a temporary hiatus. I know that my teaching license and Masters are in my near future...and maybe a law degree in the later future; but at least for the summer I am out of school and focusing on being the best wife and mommy ever. Isn't that enough?!?! No- throw in there cook and cleaner, coupon'er and grocery-shopper, sister/daughter/daughter-in-law and employee, too. That about covers it. :)

On a much better note: Bella is walking. YES WALKING! And has been since 9m 3w old (or May 10th)... She started out taking lots of steps together, but once she fell over she started crawling. Then she started falling and getting back up and walking some more. Now she barely stumbles! Until she starts trying to run, then she usually falls over :) I think Daniel likes this the best (because she is usually trying to run to him while she cries out "Dada!").

That brings up the second awesome thing: officially she is saying 'Dada' and 'Mama' and 'Hi' and 'Baby.' Pretty much in that order. I mean, I could be annoying and argue that she said Mama and Dad at the same time, but she clearly calls for her Dada and I think I might just let Daniel have this one ;). Either way, it's pretty darn adorable.

Besides all that, there is lots to say. But so much is still unsure and in God's hands that I won't speak of it just yet. Just know that we are happy and full of Faith that we are in God's will with our decisions as a family right now. It is a great feeling to have- to know that you are walking in His will. Everything looks better: even finances! Yay for a God-guided budget!

Well, I better go. I successfully have my little one down for a 2hr+ nap (whoop whoop!) and I really want to get working on some Father's Day presents for her #1 man (and mine, truthfully). Can't wait to see him tonight!!

Love and God Bless, I will be on here more than once ever other month from now on. Have I said that before? Well, ignore anything that I said before my BA was done- I was 3/4 crazy then. :) So till next time...

More Firsts...

The past few weeks, we have had many firsts!! Isabella has just crossed the '9 months old' mark and Daniel and I can hardly believe how fast time is flying by... It's pretty crazy how one day she is barely moving and the next thing you know, she is asking for the car keys and some money. The first thing that we have learned about Isabella in the last few weeks, she loves rice. Rice and black beans, rice and gravy, just plain rice... any way Mommy makes it, she will eat it. I think it's adorable and a sign that she will be a great eater!
Next thing, about 10 days ago Bella's first tooth appeared. Her bottom-right, center (incisor) is almost fully through now. She has been messing around with it and biting everything she can get her mouth on :)
Next- A couple weeks ago we had a play-date with S
ydney (a little girl just a couple weeks older than Bella) and the girls had their first experience with swings. Surprisingly, they LOVED it! Bella especially... she was laughing and screaming with joy.
Next, we have caught Bella standing on her own every now and then. Just for 10 or 20 seconds at a time...but it's a start!
Next- we had our first car wash! Finally, spring and warm weather have mad
e it to NC and Bella helped daddy wash the car (kinda)...mostly we just played in the grass. :)
The last big first has been this week- my family, is on vacation at Myrtle Beach and besides when Isabella was just a few weeks old, this is her first time at a beach/pool. She is definitely her daddy's daughter though, because she loves it! I will get some pictures up soon- now that school is wrapping up for me, blogging about all-things-Bella is my next project. I know that if the first kid is the best chance you have for remembering every little thing, so I want to try and get caught up.
Before I go (the pool is calling my name)- I want to say one thing that I want to make sure I remember about my little girl: I love how when she nurses, lying down beside me, that she kicks her little feet up on top of me...and when she falls asleep, that she stays that way. With her legs up on my side...and she notices when you try to move them! I think it's sweet and just one of the ways that she says 'I love you, Mommy' to me every day.

Getting back...

Hi everyone!

There has been so much to be thankful for and Bella has done so much! But the past 3 weeks have been PACKED with new adventures in the world of Isabella. First, she started crawling like a big girl on all fours and can get anywhere she wants to go! She crawls up to all the furniture and toys she has and stands up on them. From there, anything she can reach is fair game for walking to. I love seeing her get braver when it comes to to switching from one thing to another. I know she will be walking before we know it!! Second, she started clapping and signing back to us! It was amazing! One day she just signed 'milk' and I said, 'Bella, do you want milk?' and she got the BIGGEST smile on her face. She also seems to be signing 'bye' or 'more,' we aren't sure really, but she is definitely exploring the signs as a way of communicating with us. And the clapping- it is so cute! She starts and we sing "patty cake, patty cake bakers make. Roll 'em up and throw 'em in the pan!!" When we say the last part, she throws her little hands down with emphasis!! HA it is so cute!! Lastly, she has made some new friends! Jaxon Crump finally arrived from Korea and we visited this weekend for the first time. He is 10 months old now, but they loved each other! She immediately crawled over to him, crawled up and gave him a kiss!! The rest of their play-date was "sharing" toys and getting to know each other. This week we have another play-date with Sydney (a little girl just a couple weeks older than Bella) and I know they will have a lot of fun together :) In short, I am so happy to be a Mom to a beautiful, smart girl who is constantly growing and surprising me. She even slept through the night last night- randomly. But it was a nice break from the usual nursing fest! Or should I say feast :) It will probably be back to normal tonight, but I am thankful for a full night of sleep when I really needed it.

that's all for now! be happy for the quick update, people! :) Hopefully more will come sooner and closer together from now on...

A Couple Months Late

This first part I wrote on my second anniversary, Jan 2 2011 and a few days after Bella's ears were pierced. Better late than never. New Post comes afterward...

Happy New Year all! I am a few days belated, but whatever. I am managing to post less than a month after my last (victory!) and what a month it as been. First of all, working backwards- happy anniversary to me and my sweetie. 2 whole years has passed and I can't believe it, we are more in love today as we were last year. And thank goodness, because we have some stuff to get through that will challenge us and push our limits. We have just started our move into my in-laws (love you, Gail!) and it is going pretty smoothly so far. I keep telling myself that we will all settle in soon, but I can't help but feel like I'm stepping on toes sometimes. Tonight, for example, I am up in the middle of the night and feel like I'm waking up everyone! Plus, living somewhere where nothing is really yours can be tough...but my parents and us kids have done it a few times before, I know it can be done. This next month will be spent packing and starting to move things to VA and hopefully selling our furniture. Anyone want a practically brand new couch and lazy-boy recliner, 2 side tables and matching coffee table and some lamps?
So besides all the moving and such, Daniel is back at work and I'm trying to get school things sorted out. I was in my last two classes as of Monday, but for some reason I was dropped out of them. At about 8am today I will be calling to yell at some people :) Then real work starts on the 10th for me. I'm still doing part time with Cheryl, yay, but hopefully working my way out of that.

NOW, for the stuff you really want to know. Bella :) Our little girl has had a banner month! Right before 4 months old (Dec 17) she started sitting up on her own AND she got her first bite of "people food." Since then we have learned that she hates bananas, which I don't blame her for, and that she love pears. She is only eating the organic baby food so far, but has had some random tastes of mommy's plate if it's something mushy. She is still 99% breastfeeding, which will stay this way for another few months at least, but it's fun for daddy and other family to get a chance to feed her.
Also this month Bella got her ears pierced! We went to our favorite Salon and Spa in Mooresville, NC - Bella Lago Salon and Spa. Merrisa (the owner) and a wonderful lady, Denise, were all set to do it. Unfortunately, our Bella was less than cooperative and fought hard against the tiny marker that was just going to mark the earing's place! Then, I held her head while they did both ears at once. She screamed. :( But it wasn't over...the left side was at a bad angle and didn't match. At this point, Daniel is nearly in tears and is hating so much that his little girl is in pain. However, it was better to just get it over with than come back another day. It wasn't the easiest thing, but she has been great since.

Here are some pictures!

Whoa- time for an update

yeah Shawna- this is for you, girl :)

Hi all! I know, I know- it's been a good 4 months since I updated this thing! Thankfully I have a wonderful excuse and I will do better. These past four months have been blessed, amazing, stressful and worth it! Our little Isabella Grace is now a little over 4.5 months old and is making leaps and strides towards being an independent little girl. In the past two weeks she is starting to sit up on her own (it's not very pretty right now, but getting better by the day) and she can army craw (slowly, thank goodness) to things she wants. Which is pretty much anything. She had a four month appointment this past Monday (29th) and weighs 4lbs 8oz and is 24" tall! Funny thing is, at the same age I was 5lbs 14oz and 27" tall! Maybe she won't be as tall as mommy, but that's ok :) I don't know if my back could take another pound or two! At my latest doctor trip they told me to stop losing weight... I swear breastfeeding is amazing.

Besides things of recent, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving with Daniel's family and then drove to VA to surprise my family! Dad knew, but mom and Gima, Virginia and the kids had NO clue! We stayed till Sunday afternoon and then came home :( Halloween was also great, Bella was a ladybug and a watermelon. Marisa and Will came to visit for the day and we avoided all the tricker-treaters in Troy. Sorry kids, I don't have $200 for the candy it would take to please you. She already has way too many Christmas presents, but I guess a little girl's frist Christmas is a very special one.

Just a little shout out for two of my wonderful friends Matt and Kathleen- they had their first child, Roslyn Moran early this morning. I am so excited to share parenthood with them and can't wait to live closer and raise our little girs together.

anyway, i'm done for now. I'll get photos up soon.

love- Caly and Bella

Finally here :)

I'm here!!
Our beautiful angel was born at 6:26am on Saturday- July 17th. She weighed 7lbs and was 20 1/4" long. She had a great first couple days at the hospital and a great first night at home. She is happy, healthy and absolutely perfect! Can't wait to start blogging about her many amazing adventures, but no promises that I'll be on here soon. Already crazy here and being a new Mom will take some practice. Love you all!

More updates later...

+4

still waiting!

Isabella,
What are you doing in there?! Can it really be so comfortable in my tummy that you are still happy?? And this week has been even quieter than last...no contractions, no more dilating, no nothing! You are keeping people waiting coast to coast and I've started checking my own facebook hourly for hopes up an update. Could you pretty please make Mommy and Daddy (and SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE) happy and come today! Or tomorrow... Monday is really just too far away. And besides, the longer you wait the shorter the time for us between now and when classes start! So make Mommy happy and come soon.

Love you more than you will ever understand (that is until you are a mom yourself) - Mom

updates

Mommy is still only 2cm dilated .
But Bella is crammed down as low as a kid can get without being born :)
She weighs a whopping 6 lbs, 15 oz (as of today)
If she doesn't come this week, we are scheduled for an induction at 7am Monday the 19th.
She made her Daddy happy today by giving him his Father's Day present (some video game) a day before it was released to stores...but he still wants her to come NOW!
Nothing else new.

(not so happy) due date

we have reached the end of 9 months preggo...but still no baby to show, cuddle and kiss. It's so hard not to get anxious and wonder if she will ever arrive, but I'm taking comfort in the reality that she will be here soon and our life will never be the same again! While I type Isabella is drumming on my hip bone and sticking her little bum out for everyone to see, so I know she is running out of room and ready to be here! I know that once she is here time will fly by and I'll be remembering how easy she was to care for just inside the belly! But I'm so excited to be a mom and beyond excited to see Daniel as a dad. In the last few weeks I've seen him change from being nervous to just plain ready. He talks to her all the time and wants her out as much, if not more, than me! I can't wait to see her in his arms and begin the journey of parenthood together with him. He has been an amazing, loving, perfect husband and daddy-to-be throughout this whole pregnancy! So, that's all for now. Just hoping that the next time I get a change to write on here I will be cuddling a newborn in my arms!

Please pray for a quick labor and healthy Bella!

well done

9 days!

I feel so overdone! Truth be told I thought pregnant women were really exaggerating when they said that the last couple weeks really drug on and laughed when they said that they felt beyond ready for their little one to come...but now I understand! I have literally been begging my uterus to start causing me massive amounts of pain. I have been walking hills, eating spicy foods and "other stuff" all in hopes of bringing this baby home ASAP. Not only do I feel like this belly will be the death of me, Bella has taken to kickboxing my insides to the point of severe pain. I never could have imagined how such little arms and legs could rip into my sides and separate my ribs. Ugh.

To make matters even more pleasant, Dr. Bohmer says that she has already dropped down into my pelvis and he can feel her head, so NO relief for mom in site from "lightening." She must be tall and really enjoying her current footrest on my poor lungs! At our visit Tuesday we also learned that I am 70%+ effaced and 2cm dilated, so at least she is making some progress! I only wish that meant she was guarenteed to come any time, instead of still playing the guessing game till we pass our due date. Dr says that if I don't go into labor by Tuesday, that will be my last visit/check up and there is a possibility that he will want to induce (depending on how far along we are then), otherwise it will be a waiting game some more till the 11th and after that, if I haven't gone on my own, he will want to have me induced a couples days after that. Either way, the positive side is we will have a baby guarenteed in the next 12 days. Pray for sooner!

Check out the belly at 38 weeks, 5 days
Hoping to have some beautiful baby photos up soon... Happy 4th of July Weekend!

13 days...

It's getting close! We have crossed the "two weeks till" date and are headed for our 38th week appointment tomorrow afternoon. I didn't update on last week, but according to Dr. Bohmer Isabella is growing perfectly and he guesses she is about 7lbs right now. I haven't gained much weight (only a few lbs) in the last month and I am still itty-bitty compared to everyone else I have seen in the office who is 8.5 months along, but I'm thankful! We have been so blessed to have no complications with this pregnancy, so far and I hope that means a quick and "easy" labor.

I can't remember if I posted about it yet, but the week before last (so week 36) we had a bit of false labor and they had me come into the hospital to be monitored for a while. It was all a false alarm, but a great practice run! In light of that this past week the doctor talked to us about the issue of our living an hour from the hospital and the chance of my having a very quick labor. He said that if I am more than a couple cm dilated this week, he would be willing to schedule an induction for next week (the week of the 4th) instead of risking a fast labor. Daniel is much more worried that I am, so I am siding against the induction, but for his sake we have been talking about it and will talk more to Dr B tomorrow about pros and cons. I'll keep you all posted!

Needless to say, regardless of an induction or completely natural birth, we are more than ready for our little girl to make her grand arrival. The sooner the better!

More soon...

Nana

I won't be able to write much here tonight, but I am going to try a beginning and maybe add on over the next few days or weeks. I know Bella won't get to ever meet her, but my Nana was one of the most wonderful, loving, strong and wise grandmothers anyone could ever ask for! She left us knowing that she was about to have her first great-granddaughter and I know that made her incredibly happy. But since Bella won't ever get to meet her face to face, I wanted to write about some of my favorite memories of Nana for her to read one day. I am so thankful for the fact that she was able to be with me for so many years and wonderful memories, like my wedding day and to hear Daniel and I announce that we were having a little girl. I know Nana already loved Bella and I want my daughter to know that from her mom first hand...

To begin: pictures of Daniel and I with Nana and Bunka on our wedding day 1/2/10

so much to update with so little time left!

Sorry for my long absence! With the end of school came a series of weeks unpacking and preparing Bella's beautiful nursery. My nesting instincts really kicked in after I finished stressing over finals and moving! We have (nearly) everything we need for her upcoming arrival and her room looks awesome! (I will post some pictures soon, I have to upload all of the baby shower and recent belly photos today) Speaking of the shower, it was wonderful! My mother-in-law and her sisters really went above and beyond anything I was expecting and made me feel so special :) Bella got a TON of really amazing things....and even more clothes! So, needless to say, I am working on a stack of Thank You's still! haha

Since I last wrote, we have graduated to weekly doctor's visits and so far Bella and I are doing wonderfully. She is growing every week, putting on about .5lb every week and taking up every inch of my belly. She spends her days trading time between beating my ribs and hips, sticking her bottom out for everyone to see (it is really amazing!), hicupping on my bladder (not my favorite pastime) and sleeping (the most rest I get!). It is starting to feel like she has been in me forever, now, so I am definitely ready to have her in my arms! But I know that she will come when she is ready and I'm trying not to be so anxious. Daniel says that he is nervous...but we completed our Childbirthing class with ease and besides the car seat, that we should be getting in the next week or so, we are about as ready as anyone could get. I am hoping that she holds out till her due date, but I know that babies have minds of their own!

My most recent adventures have been the random cravings for Bagel Bites and Brats- Daniel calls it my "boy in college" diet. But, thankfully, so far I haven't gained more than my 1lb/week that keeps us on schedule for a healthy baby/mommy weight. Other new things that aren't so fun are that Bella is dropping lower in my pelvis and putting a lot of pressure on my siatic nerve...my right leg has been in terrible pain for about 48 hours and doesn't look like it will be getting much better. I will talk to the doctor tomorrow and see what he thinks. Also, sleep is becoming a bit of a nightmare in that I just can get comfortable and wake about ever 45/60 minutes. Probably just a combinating of nerves and my back being sore. I really can't blame Bella because she sleeps all night long and I don't really have to pee more than normal.

Anyway, I will get on later today and post some pictures of her room. :) Time for a little house-cleaning and homework (my summer classes have already started up!)

Love ya
